What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They help the site remember your preferences, understand how you use the site, and improve your experience. A cookie is not a program and cannot carry viruses or install anything harmful on your device.

Cookies can be session-based, meaning they are deleted when you close your browser, or persistent, meaning they are stored for a set period before expiring. Similar technologies include local storage, web beacons, and pixels, which may also be used to collect information about how you interact with a page.

Our Use of Cookies

Movie Focus Daily uses cookies to ensure the website functions properly, to analyse traffic and usage patterns, and to remember your cookie preferences. We do not use cookies for advertising or cross-site tracking. All data collected is used in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

Types of Cookies We Use

We use a limited set of cookies to deliver a reliable, readable experience. The categories below explain what each type does, the specific cookie names we set, and how long they remain on your device.

Essential Cookies

These cookies are necessary for the website to function and cannot be switched off in our systems. They are usually set in response to actions you take, such as setting your privacy preferences or filling in forms. Without these cookies, parts of the site would not work correctly.

  • Cookie name: cookie_consent — stores your cookie preference.
  • Duration: 1 year.

Analytics Cookies

We use analytics cookies to understand how visitors interact with the site by collecting and reporting information anonymously. This helps us improve content and navigation. We use a privacy-friendly analytics solution that does not track you across other sites.

  • Cookie name: _ga — used only if Google Analytics is enabled with IP anonymisation.
  • Purpose: Distinguish unique visitors and measure page engagement.

Functional Cookies

These cookies enable enhanced functionality and personalisation, such as remembering your display preferences. They are not essential, but they make the site easier to use on return visits.

  • Cookie name: mfd_prefs — stores theme or layout choices.
  • Duration: 30 days.

Managing Cookies

Most web browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings. You can set your browser to block or alert you about cookies, and you can delete cookies already stored on your device. Instructions vary by browser, but the process is usually found under the privacy or security settings.

  • Google Chrome
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Apple Safari
  • Microsoft Edge

Please note that disabling essential cookies may affect site functionality, including the ability to save your cookie preferences.

Opting Out of Analytics

If you wish to opt out of analytics tracking, you can use browser extensions or privacy settings that block analytics scripts. We respect Do Not Track signals where applicable.

Your Rights and Contact

Under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020, you have the right to access and request correction of your personal information. You may also withdraw consent for non-essential cookies at any time by clearing your browser data or adjusting your preferences.
