Featured Breakdown
Casino (1995)
Martin Scorsese's epic crime drama chronicles the rise and fall of Sam 'Ace' Rothstein, a meticulous handicapper tasked with running the Tangiers Casino in Las Vegas for the mob. His world unravels due to his volatile friend Nicky Santoro and his troubled wife Ginger.
Ace is sent to Las Vegas to oversee the Tangiers. He runs the casino with precision, skimming profits for the mob. Nicky arrives and establishes his own criminal operation, causing tension. Ace's attention to detail and control define the casino's early success, while Nicky's violent methods threaten the delicate balance. Ginger is introduced as a hustler whose instability will later unravel everything.
Ace's marriage to Ginger deteriorates as she spirals into addiction and an affair with Nicky. The FBI begins investigating the casino's mob connections, and Ace's public profile draws unwanted attention. Ginger's betrayal and instability become impossible to ignore, while Nicky's reckless violence attracts law enforcement and puts the entire operation at risk.
The mob loses patience with Ace's notoriety. Nicky is brutally murdered, Ginger dies of an overdose, and Ace survives a car bomb. The epilogue shows Ace returning to a quieter life as a sports bettor. Nicky's death in a cornfield and Ginger's tragic end mark the collapse of the old order, while Ace's resilience and survival offer a muted, reflective conclusion.
